About Us

UK Jazz Place is mainly a database for jazz musicians who want to get in touch with other jazz musicians, quickly and easily. Once you have created an account you can search for members by their listed instruments, services or skills, what style they play, and the places they work - or any combination of the above. Likewise, other members (including bookers eventually) will be able to search and get in contact with you.

In recent years we have witnessed enormous changes in many industries throughout the UK. The increasing dependence on freelance workers brings exciting challenges, and nowhere more so perhaps than in the twin roles of information technology and communications. The jazz music industry is particularly under serviced by IT/communications, though the mobile phone has proven an outstanding success. Many of us dreamt of having mobile phones. Now we say, “How did we ever manage without them?”

Some of us also dream of a comprehensive online jazz community with virtual address books, biographies, notes on who is available at the last minute and so on. Some organisations have already made useful jazz web sites, but the inability to search simultaneously by instrument, jazz style and area is glaringly obvious. UK Jazz Place will give musicians and events organisers the tools they need to find appropriate replacement musicians and bands in a hurry. UK Jazz Place is the perfect venue for a new online jazz community. We hope you agree, and that one day you will say, “How did we ever manage without it?”

We are in Beta We are in Beta. The site will grow, the programming bugs will be eradicated, and more facilities will be added.
Subject to sufficient member participation, there is no reason why UK Jazz Place should not evolve perpetually.

About the team

Ukjazzplace.co.uk is the property of jazz musician Mike Summers of SW London. He and his computer associates put most of it together in August 2007.

Location

While we anticipate some interest from musicians and so on working outside the UK, the website is designed towards jazz musicians in the UK and Ireland. Members from other areas are free to make beta profiles, and should specify 'overseas' in the registration process. We apologise in advance for any shortcomings in the Overseas section, but our priority is the creation of a fully functioning UK site.
